National Watercolor Society Member Exhibit

My London Sweets has been accepted into the National Watercolor Society’s Member Exhibit! This is the first painting I’ve had accepted by NWS and I’m honored (and over the moon happy!) to have my name listed along with some of the best watercolorists in the world who will also be in this exhibit.

It’s been an amazing two months of art news for me and I am so grateful. I’ve loved these past few years when I’ve been able to dedicate myself to painting, learning, teaching, learning more, connecting to artists, art teachers, art students and art collectors... It’s been exhilarating!

One of the best gigs ever: being the editor for the Northwest Watercolor Society's bi-monthly newsletter. A year ago, when Jeff Waters took over as President for NWWS, I stepped in as editor of Hot Press, to cover for him. The year has flown by and with this issue, my year as editor draws to an end. I have loved every minute of it and I hope you have enjoyed reading the newsletters as much as I have enjoyed creating them!

Interview with Carla O'Connor

Carla O’Connor’s unique and expressive works caught my eye from the first time I saw them. Her process includes applying and then washing off layers of gouache repeatedly. Refreshingly, she doesn’t feel compelled to be more deliberate, explaining that this process is an essential part of how she expresses herself. And expression is what it’s all about! Her seemingly aimless process allows Carla to create masterful paintings of representational figures set in abstract pictorial spaces. Women Painters of Washington

I have been accepted into the Women Painters of Washington.

Women Painters of Washington has been in existence since the summer of 1930 when six female artists met while attending a portrait class. The founding members--Elizabeth Warhanik, Dorothy Dolph Jensen, Lily Norling Hardwick, Myra Albert Wiggins, Anna B. Stone and Helen Bebb joined together to overcome the limitations they faced as female artists and to stimulate artistic growth through fellowship. Exhibitions sponsored by WPW have been occurring for 75 years, including cultural exchanges and international exhibits with Japan, Germany, Kuwait, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

As our horizons have broadened WPW has also seen the need to expand its commitment to the community. The group has supported food banks and donated art supplies to women’s shelters (currently the Street Life Gallery and the Angeline Center, both in Seattle). WPW has had a continuous exhibit at the University of Washington's Women's Clinic since 1989.

I am honored and humbled to be part of this talented group of women artists.

Splash 15!

Two of my paintings have been accepted for publication in Splash 15! The Best of Watercolors. This annual series by North Light Books’ hardbound showcase the best in contemporary watercolors. I’m honored to have work included in this compilation. Being included in Splash has been a long term dream and goal!

Interview with Jeannie McGuire

When I was a child, I spent hours pouring over old family albums and imagining what the lives were like of the people pictured there. As I grew up, I found myself collecting vintage photographs, from family and friends, and buying them at garage sales and from antique stores. It’s a type of imagery that stirs my imagination and ties me to many histories. Imagine my delight when I discovered the breath taking watercolors of Jeannie McGuire! Marrying two of my passions: old photographs and watercolors. Her work has been described as a brilliant combination of emotion, movement, natural design, and sheer artistry. I couldn’t agree more and I cannot say enough about how much I love her work. Thank you Jeannie, for this interview and for the exciting work.
